Moved into new house that needs a lot of cosmetic stuff to bring it up to date?

how do you go about it ?

dont know where to startMoved into new house that needs a lot of cosmetic stuff to bring it up to date?
Lucky you! It's brilliant to get the opportunity to put your mark on a house and transform it into something so personal to you.

Why not start by buying a few interiors magazines to help you form a plan in mind for each room. Plain painted walls are great because they are easy to clean, easy to change, inexpensive and an easy way to make a room feel lighter, airier and more spacious.

However, if the walls are in a bit of a state, and you don't want the expense of replastering just now, wallpaper is making a comeback and covers a multitude of bumps and lumps.

If the floors can be sanded and varnished, this is an easy way to update the look of the place. If not and you decide to lay laminate, take the opportunity to replace the skirting at the same time - you'll get a much better finish than using beading.

New light fittings and switch/socket covers will make a big difference. If your house is very old, maybe you should get the wiring checked out - better safe than sorry.

If you need to do major work, like replacing bathrooms and kitchens, shop around carefully and make sure you get a fixed price for fitting from a local tradesman. Otherwise the job will turn into a bottomless pit financially.Moved into new house that needs a lot of cosmetic stuff to bring it up to date?
big bucket of magnolia cover it all up make it bearable then do one room at a time you will get there eventually
Sometimes its really hard to decide where to start I have lost count of the arguments me and my boyfriend have in the paint aisle at B%26amp;Q so now what we do it choose a room then going shopping for nik naks maybe buy a cushion or a vase or anything that you like and pick a colour off it, it sort of decides the colours for you, its working a bit backwards but it helped me.

Four bed detached sounds fab on second thoughts give up and sell it me!!!
Do one room at a time. Start with stripping any cheesy wallpaper, and replace with something simple and paint in neutral colours. Replace loud carpets with neutrals again or laminate flooring. Light colours create an illusion of space. Get modern style light fittings too.
Get rid of the furnishing perhaps dfonate them to ''Changing Rooms ( if its still going after all the horrendous styles )

Probably we have moved on from the minamalist look consult style magazines .About colour look at your clothes and those taht are sharing the house what colours and sahdes are they.

Decide this then look fro tones and hues to match or contrast these

Do alife review what intersts you does it offer any themes for developmnent .

Lokk at different artists how do you respond to them , have you some favourite things that you would like to siplay . Have you a touch ot Irony?

I was interested in your question because I have just moved into a flat andf I'm Feng Shuing it , to withinan inchof my life so its easy to get carried away

Without further information I cant help ypu with the design.
Burn it down and start from scratch.
If you live in the UK, go to places like Matalan, Ikea, Camden Market, Primark and you can get cheap cosmetic goods to brighten up your home.

Ikea is fantastic for furniture. I got some cushions and bed covers from Primark and was amazed at the quality of them - much better than I thought they would be. Camden Market is good for furniture too. More expensive than Ikea, but a lot better quality. Similar to stuff sold in John Lewis, but a lot cheaper than them. Matalan is good for little extras, like kitchen utensils, vases, etc.
